Song number 2 of 10: RS Letter - 3rd time lucky.
As promised here is the second track in my 10 day/10 post series
Same band, same genre as yesterday’s post, this song was from our second recording. We needed something new to give to people because for about a year and a half we’d been flogging our prior ep to death. After looking online for decent studios in brisbane we ended up going to Airlock studios near samford for a weekend just to do 2 songs rough and quick to burn heaps of copies of and give out to whoever wanted them.
We went out there a few weeks in advance to check the place out. Little did we know it was set up by Ian Haug from powderfinger, and he was nice enough to show us around. The studio has 2 adjoining buildings - one is an old water tank converted into accommodation for 4 people and the other is a kitchen and bathroom. We were really into the idea of hanging out in the woods for a weekend and playing music and orbit tennis, so we booked in for two days around August 2004.
It was alot of fun, although we were still so, so green and when i think back about some of the things i had said to the engineer, Naut (of Naut cases), it makes me cringe so, so hard. The flyer said the studio rates also included drinks but we didn’t realise that meant a carton of home brand cola cans. Like i said, very, very green.
Anyway, we had a blast and to be honest i don’t know why i haven’t done anything like it since, even though we tend to talk about it alot. Also we had heaps of blisters from all the orbit tennis. Admittedly Naut was pretty grumpy and genuinely seemed like he would have rather been somewhere else, and complained alot about how Haugy was going to make him build a putt-putt golf course or something.
