the third post: an untitled song (known only as song no. 4) by Sir Man.
Be warned, this recording is ultra lo-fi.
So the story goes something like this…
Maybe a year after the song in post no. 2 was recorded, our bass player Matt moved down the coast and as a result decided to leave the band. We were all a little taken by surprise and didn’t really know what to do at first, we’d never had to find a member before, let alone replace one.
At the time, James and Matt (the other Matt) were occasionally standing in on guitar for a band called Indx3, another pop punk band that we’d instantly become friends with after meeting when we played a dodgy wedensday night show at the basement in brisbane.
Lloyd, the bass player from Indx3 was adopted into the band. We also invited a guy named Aaron to play keyboard. Although still to this day no one really knows if any keys were actually played. Still we didn’t have a singer and the song attached to this post was recorded in our jam room, with one microphone i guess sometime in 2004. We had hoped to use these jam room demos to give to potential vocalists. We could never decide on a name either and as far as i can tell, at the time of this crime against your ears, i think we were called Sir Man, a name i still like due to its fruity flavour.
We had a fair few people come along to try out, but were never super stoked on anyone. So instead of making a go of it, we got frustrated trying to find a singer, changed our name 400 times, had friends and band members fade into obscurity and generally peter out until all we were left with were five super dodgy recordings of songs which, given persistence, might have sounded ok. So here is one of them.
Two days prior to posting this, James reminded that there is in fact a current myspace page still up for this band which really is quite hilarious. It features one of the five demos mentioned above with vocals recorded by a potential frontman, Jason. see it here: http://www.myspace.com/guiltyfreakinspark
I’m actually listening to it now for the first time in about 5 years, and to be honest it saddens me a little that it never worked out but hey, that’s all just part of the story.
Stay tuned.
